Indian Rocks Christian School is not simply a place where students go to school and teachers go to work, it’s a place where we all “become.” From preschool to 12th grade, our mission and vision is all about helping students transform from curious children to thoughtful learners, communicators and disciples for Christ. We don’t shy away from the hard questions – we embrace them. Knowing that all truth is God’s truth, we encourage students to embrace the challenge of growing into all that Christ intends them to be.
And isn’t transformation the heart of the Gospel message?
Because God makes all things new, we have embarked on a journey of constant renewal with our students, faculty and parents.
You see, life at our private school in Largo, Fla., is about so much more than reading, writing and arithmetic. Though our students are academically stimulated with a fabulous, Christ-centered curriculum, the greater purpose of our school is to discover God’s plan for our lives – together. We challenge ourselves and each other to become better scholars, athletes, students and friends who seek God first in everything we do.
It’s true that we hold our students to the highest standard of academic excellence, so that when they leave our campus, they’re prepared for life – whether they choose a career or higher education. The college-preparatory program in the upper grades includes honors, AP and dual-credit courses and our guidance department works closely with students and parents to help move students toward the college of their choice.
But in a way, we also prepare students to become ministers. Because whether or not we choose ministry as an actual vocation, as Christians, we are all called to become ministers of the gospel.
As we “do life” together, we encourage our students to extend God’s transformative power to those who need it, whether it’s across town or across the globe. Over the past ten years, our high school Ministry Mester program has sent nearly 2,000 students to 42 countries. Students who don’t wish to travel abroad can choose a work-study internship or a college visit. We also offer multiple opportunities for service to several Christian non-profits such as Samaritan’s Purse.
By allowing our students to safely explore the world around them and encouraging life outside their comfort zones, students are impacting others for Christ in powerful ways.
What else can students become?
Leaders. Artists. Visionaries.
Through an exciting roster of extra-curricular activities and elective courses, students can learn to wield a paint brush, play a mean trombone or even master the art of television newscasting. Our awesome fine arts program and our unique digital arts program help students develop and express their God-given artistic talents.
Young athletes can choose from 16 sports including football, baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, cheerleading, basketball, bowling and more. We compete at the highest level possible and encourage Christ-like attitudes and servant spirits.
There’s much more to be said about life at IRCS, our private school in Pinellas County, so we’re excited to offer our first e-book. In it, you’ll discover more about all the ways our students are “becoming” and about how your family can become a part of Indian Rocks Christian School.
