Teacher of the Year

Each year Indian Rocks Christian School picks a teacher of the year. The winner attends the Seminole Chamber of Commerce breakfast held to honor each of the selectees from all of the area schools. One of the best parts of this honor is that we have the teachers vote on who they believe deserves the honor each year. It is a special feeling for the winner to know that he was picked by his peers.

This year’s winner is MS/HS Digital Arts teacher Charlie Hall. Charlie has taken our Digital Arts program to a whole new level since he came back. He originally taught at IRCS from 1997-2001. At that time he went to another Christian school to start its Digital Arts program. He returned to IRCS for the 2008-09 school year and has been here ever since, giving him a total of 19 years of experience.

In addition to teaching a full schedule of Video Editing, Web Design, Electronic Journalism, Music Studio, and Digital Photography, he is also in charge of our student “Tech Team”. The Tech Team has the duty of running the cameras, equipment, and sound for all of our chapels and assemblies.  Charlie also oversees the live streaming of major events such as chapel, varsity sports and school programs. Many of you have had the opportunity to view a football or baseball game. Or maybe you have watched a chapel or one of our concerts. Charlie makes all of these happen in his behind-the-scene role. You can see examples of his work at where there is a video archive of everything we have live streamed. He also goes the extra mile by putting together videos that promote our school or its events. If you have been to any school program that has a video in it, Charlie probably made it.

Another big area of influence has been in the area of missions. Charlie has put together a number of our mission trip videos. He also created our missions website that was used to record blogs from our recent mini-mester. Charlie uses his spare time to help missionaries that are home develop videos that they can use to promote their work or help in their fundraising.

The development of the Digital Arts studio has been nothing short of amazing. We don’t have much of a budget in this area, but Charlie is super creative. Any DVD that is sold of any program the school does goes directly to improvements in the studio. He does more with less than anyone I know. If you have ever had the chance to see video of any morning news programs from other schools, you will realize what an incredible job he does with ours. It is truly a quality production. Probably the most outstanding part is that he teaches the students to do all of the work. Students who desire to learn the ins and outs of video production come out of the program with a life skill that they have used to gain employment in the business world after graduation.

Charlie is a team player that spends hours to help the students, as well as promote the school, going far beyond what he is paid to do. IRCS is proud to congratulate Charlie Hall on being our 2013-14 Teacher of the Year.

Charlie Hall is amazing! Whatever Charlie sets his hands to do, you know it's "gonna be great"! He is a humble, hardworking man who enjoys humor and excellence in his work, above all seeking to honor God through what he does. Thank you, Perry, for your broad strokes of well-written diaramas of the IRC landscape. I personally look forward to your thoughtful insight into a great school.

Met him once during a recent tour. Can't wait for my son (going to 9th grade) to meet him and get into all this technology stuff, which he LOVES so much!
