A big part of the life of every school is its athletic program. Indian Rocks Christian School is no different. IRCS fields 47 different teams when you add up all of the male and female sports at the middle school, junior varsity, and varsity level. Our 6th-12th grades have a total of 414 students. Of those, 169 played at least one sport—that is 40% of our student body. That makes it the biggest extra-curricular we offer by a large margin.
The teams compete in a varied amount of games and competitions. One of the best ways to judge success beyond the won/loss record is their participation in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) State series that begins with Districts, advancing to Regions, and then State. Here is a recap of this past school year and the successes our students were able to celebrate.

Perhaps the most outstanding characteristics of our athletic program is that it isn’t just about the athletics or the winning and losing. That sounds weird, doesn’t it? Our coaches strive to emphasize the Christian component to their athletes as well. There are a significant number of “life lessons” that can be learned through athletics if students are directed appropriately during teachable moments. We have a great group of committed coaches who do just that. They don’t get paid much when you consider the hours that they invest in the lives of our students but they have produced some great successes both on and off the field. The next time you see a coach, thank them for their service.
The architect of this whole program is Athletic Director, Phil Farver. Phil was brought to IRCS in 1992 to start the high school athletic program—our first graduating class was the Class of 1995. Through the years he has grown the program from its infancy to the product we see today. A big thanks to Coach Farver for his oversight and 22 years of faithful service to IRCS.
This Thursday during the Activity period portion of our chapel time there will be athletic awards given out. We have 58 students who have earned the 3-Sport award (playing three sports during the school year) and 66 students who will be receiving the Scholar Athlete award. This award is given to students that have maintained a 3.9 GPA and participated in two sports. We also will be giving our “Shield Award” that goes to the outstanding female and male athlete each year as voted on by our coaching staff. If you would like to attend, please join us in the Worship Center by 10 am. The ceremony will begin at the conclusion of chapel.
