They’re Baa-aack!

August 07, 2014
By Perry R. Banse, Assistant Superintendent, Middle/High School Principal

We they aren’t back quite yet but they will be next week on Wednesday. It is the most wonderful time of the year for a school. A new beginning – a fresh start lies ahead with unlimited possibilities. We love the start of school.
While most of you know that the first day for students is Wednesday, August 13, there are a few other important dates that are notable and of which you may wish to be a part.
Monday, August 11 is a big day for orientations. There is a special 6th grade orientation that begins at 6:00 pm in the choir room of the Family Life Center. The teachers put the students through a whole day’s schedule in about 30 minutes. It gives them a familiarity with the rooms, their lockers, and how a day will progress. At 6:30 the Pre-K / Elementary parent orientation begins in the Fellowship Center. Many important announcements are made during this time. This event is followed by the 6 – 12 grade parent orientation at 7:30 in the Worship Center. You won’t want to miss these great opportunities to learn more about the coming school year.
On Tuesday, August 12 there is a new student breakfast for all new students entering the 6th – 12th grade. It is an orientation that helps the new MS / HS students have a little better understanding of IRCS and how it works. It takes place in the choir room of the Family Life Center beginning at 9:00am. This event is closely followed by our K – 12 open house. Teachers will be in their rooms and parents are welcome to come in and visit. Pre-School open house is by appointment – your teacher will call you.
Another set of important activities that comes with the beginning of school are our “Back to School Parent Nights”. They begin on August 18 with the K5-2nd grade at 6:00pm and the 3-5 at 7:00pm. The 6-8 Parent night is August 21 at 7:00pm. Senior Parent Night is August 26 at 7:00pm and 9-11 grades Parent Night is August 28 at 7:00.
There are a couple of sign-up deadlines that you will want to be aware of in September. Both the 8th grade Washington DC trip and the 2015 Summer Europe trip have a September 15 deadline for signing up. For the past two years the Washington trip has filled to capacity before the deadline so you will want to plan accordingly.
You will want to mark your calendars so that you don’t miss any of these important informational events. Our current enrollment is almost 100 more than what we ended last year with. For the first time in many years, we have 3 sections of all of the elementary grade levels. Several of the MS/HS classes are already full or very close to it.
We are very excited in anticipation of a great school. Hope to see you soon!
