With the completion of this past weekend’s events, all of the Fall sports have finished with the exception of football. It was a great season for our teams so let’s recap some of the successes.
In bowling, Junior Sydney Reitz qualified for the state tournament in Orlando. Once there she finished in the top 20% of the 273 bowlers participating.
In swimming, Freshman Tyler Small qualified for the state meet in Stuart in the 100 Backstroke. Only 24 swimmers in the entire state qualify for this meet. What an accomplishment to make State as a freshman. Keep it up Tyler!
In golf, Freshman Bianca Sol Cruz qualified for the state golf meet. She put together a couple of good rounds there and gained some valuable experience for the coming years. We’re looking for great things in the future Bianca.
In cross country, both the girls and boys teams qualified for the state meet in Tallahassee. The girls led by seniors Bobbi LaBrant and Mia Gillespie ran to an impressive 13th place finish in the freezing cold. The boy’s team used a strong team performance to place higher than any team in school history by securing a 3rd place finish in Class 1A. Seniors Luke Boeche and Zach Trador finished 17th and 20th respectively to anchor the boy’s effort.
Friday evening our football team took another step toward State by winning their Regional Semi-final contest against Evangelical Christian of Ft. Myers. The Golden Eagles rolled to a 62-14 win that implemented the running clock after half time. The running clock begins when a team is ahead by 35 points and it is at least the 3rd quarter. Nine of our ten victories this year were by 35 points or more. It was a very balanced attack by our guys on offense and the defense proved again to be stingy. We will play again this Friday night against First Baptist Academy of Naples on their field. If you are planning on making the trip the game starts at 7:30. Admission for the game will be $8 per person. In 2012, the Golden Eagles dropped a first round game to the Lions on their field by a score of 42-21. Last year, First Baptist came to the Eagles Nest and were defeated 28-14 by your Eagles. The winner of this game will advance to the Final Four State Semi-Final game.
Our cheer team went to the Florida Cheer and Dance State competition this past Saturday in Winter Haven. Friday night at the football game the reporter in the press box was so impressed with our cheer teams routine that they asked who the coach was so they could compliment them. Saturday our elementary team and our varsity team won first place in their respective categories and both were named Grand Champions of the entire competition. Our varsity cheerleaders have won 7 straight Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders National titles and have been crowned FHSAA State Champions 3 of the last 4 years. Thank you Coach Bohler, for your excellence in training our girls and building such a strong program.
And this is just the fall season. We have many more successes ahead in the next two seasons. Stay tuned for more exciting updates.
