Five Reasons to Re-Enroll

January 13, 2015
By Perry R. Banse, Assistant Superintendent, Middle/High School Principal

This week marks the beginning of re-enrollment for the 2015-16 school year. I might be a little biased, but I believe the Indian Rocks is a great school and a great family of which to be a part. Let me give you my top 5 reasons why Indian Rocks is the best choice for your family.

1.)    The Christian component – I list this one first because it is the main reason we exist. It is woven through every part of our school from the mission statement to each of the activities. Every class is taught from a distinctively Christian perspective. The high school offers a missions program that gives students the ability for hands on Christian learning in our community, in the US, or internationally. These life changing trips make the lessons taught in class come to life in a practical way. They observe different cultures and are able to share the love of God with the people they are serving. We have weekly chapel services that have a high level of student involvement. We have Bible classes that our students attend every day.

2.)    The Teaching Staff – Each of our teachers are caring committed Christians who look at teaching not as a job, but a calling. I frequently give tours to new families that have not had the chance to see our facility. On these tours, I stop current students and allow the touring family to talk to them. One of the questions I always ask the student is “what do you like the best about going to school at IRCS.” Sometimes they say lunch, sometimes chapel or maybe the mission trips, but a great majority of the time, the answer I get is the teachers. The students know the teachers love and care for them and that they are investing their lives in our school. They characterize them as kind and willing to help. Our teachers are our best asset.

3.)    The Academics – Students at IRCS can succeed at a variety of different levels. We have regular classes, honors classes, Advanced Placement (AP) classes, and Dual Enrollment classes. We are fully accredited through the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and Advanced Ed (the agency public schools are accredited through). 97% of our graduates go on to higher education. Out of 61 seniors last year, 6 were accepted to the University of Florida – that’s 10% of that senior class. We have sent students to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard, and other notable schools. We also have had students choose major Christian colleges such as Liberty University or Cedarville. We frequently get feedback from our alumni that they feel they were well prepared and they are grateful for the training they received during their years here.

4.)    The Activities – IRCS has a very balanced approach to the activities that are offered to our students. In athletics, we offer 14 different sports (24 if you count boys and girls separately) that participate in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA). With JV and Middle School sports, we field 40 different teams that have achieved high levels of success. In the Fine Arts we have our Regiment marching band as well as Middle School and High School Chorus groups. They compete in a number of competitions and are recognized and known throughout our community. Our drama department does a large winter musical each year that allows students to use and display their acting abilities. Finally, our digital arts department is an exceptional opportunity for students who have an interest in video editing, live streaming, or any of the current technologies in this field.

5.)    The Value – Compared to other private accredited schools, IRCS is very reasonably priced when you consider the scope of offerings listed above. This next year, for the first time ever, tuition is not being increased. I encourage you to compare our prices to that of other area schools. When you do, also look at any additional fees that may be added. Our tuition numbers also include all of the textbooks required. Textbooks can run from $350 to over $500 in addition to tuition. Our re-enrollment fee is still only $100 if you do it by February 1. Our goal is to make Christian education as affordable as possible.

So you can see, IRCS is a great deal, with great programs at a great price. Here is the key to this whole blog, if you take anything away from reading this, please re-enroll now. Beginning January 19th, enrollment opens up to new families. This year in 6th, 7th, 9th, and 10th grades we were full to capacity and closed enrollment. We anticipate that even more of our classes will be filled to capacity next year. We don’t have the space to open a lot of new sections so when we get full, we’re full.
