“It’s not just a job to us. It’s an offering to the Lord.”
一 Tracy Springman, STEM Director
Indian Rocks Christian School (IRCS) looks for teachers with an exceptional passion for their students, the Lord, the subject they teach, and our mission. That passion is found in Tracy Springman, STEM Director and current 10th-grade chemistry teacher at IRCS.
Dedication to Education
Springman has been a teacher at IRCS for 24 years. In that time, she has alternated between teaching biology and chemistry to ninth and 10th-grade students. She began her journey with us after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in secondary education from Palm Beach Atlantic University. Springman joined our team after she heard IRCS was expanding it’s high school in 1993. “I am very thankful for the opportunity to serve the families at IRCS,” she said.
Opening Young Minds
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs are an important part of education today, as they promote innovation and creativity. IRCS believes these are important skills in today’s job market and for jobs of the future.
Springman said IRCS superintendent, Walter Weller, is planning improvements to the IRCS STEM Research and Communication Center. “This will create a unique and special opportunity for students to increase
their problem solving skills, learn about STEM careers and how to make a positive impact on the world,” said Springman.
Education in Christ
Springman said one of the most rewarding things about teaching at IRCS is the time outside of the classroom she spends with her students. “The coaches and staff genuinely love the students, and we get to spend quality time with them outside of school in different ministry capacities,” she said.
Students at IRCS are encouraged to use their academic skills to strengthen their relationship with God and with their community by giving back. Springman believes that IRCS students have a unique opportunity to learn through their connection with God. “The mission opportunities they have surpass all other schools.”
One of Springman’s favorite memories about teaching at IRCS is of a mission trip to Nicaragua. A student wrote on his application that he had not yet accepted Christ into his life. Near the end of the trip, she found him crying and began to speak to him. After a conversation about faith, the student began praying. “He prayed with childlike faith and accepted Christ right then,” Springman said. “It was an awesome moment for both of us and one of many treasures I have in my heart from my experience of being a teacher at IRCS.”
